HP add to solar

You might want to try a water source heat pump. You would need to keep the water temp below 90 when in heating mode. You area may require some additional heat rejection if cooling is used a lot.

I've been asked
to replace a heat pump system that is supposed to work in conjunction with an existing solar system. It has not worked well in the past. I'm going to change the hot water coil from the return to the supply duct outlet so we can run the solar side of things as long as the water is warm enough. Before they had to shut off the solar when there was a need for more capacity than the solar could handle by itself. Now I plan to stage the heat in 3 stages. Stage 1 solar. Stage 2 heat pump. Stage 3 electric back up heat. I'm thinking of upgrading their Trol a Temp panek and using the Multistage panel that uses timers to bring on different stages. Also a water sensor so if the solar water dips too low we will bypass stage one and go right to heat pump operation. I'm thinking that will be long periods of cloudy days. Any suggestions or input is appreciated.

I just remembered
I have a picture of their back roof. The top half of the roof is solar water panels, the bottom half is photovoltaics. WW

Johnson 350
I'm thinking the Johnson 350 series components for the sequence you mentioned ( they just look sweet , all nestled close on a din rail...lol ). I would think Tekmar might have some controller options available for this too , don't know. http://cgproducts.johnsoncontrols.com/default.aspx?topframe.aspx&0
Basys is making some neat stuff these days as well ( looking at that structure , a web -based control system might not be over - kill ). http://www.tcsbasys.com/0
