Please evaluate this steam boiler replacement proposal

I need to replace the boiler in my 1930s home located in CT. It is a 5 bedroom colonial with radiators built into the walls and has a boiler dating back to the early 1970s. A superstor supplements the tankless coil. We use oil as our fuel source.

A local contractor who claims to understand steam systems has proposed the following:

1. Weil-McLain SGO Gold Series 3
2. Riello Burner
3. Boiler tie-in -- make up/backflow, boiler valves and piping to retie into existing steam piping
4. Venting to existing chimmney and combustion air intake package
5. Automatic water feeder package
6. New oil line in sleeve with Garber oil filter and fittings
7. Set up, start up, boiler skim
8. Tankless hot water coil
9. Domestic hot water tie in to coil and existing booster tank
10. New Bronze circulation pump for booster tank
11. New adjustable air vents for all radiators
12. System balancing

They have indicated they would return to measure all of the current radiators in order to size the boiler.

I have looked over the original steam pipes in the basement and do not see anywhere that vents have been removed, so I am hoping/assuming the original "Dead Man" design from 1930 has not been modified. This means, I hope, that we are only looking at a boiler exchange instead of a new system design.

Total price: $9,600

I would appreciate comments about the system and services proposed, other questions to ask, and the overall price.

Thanks.

    Where in CT?

all areas of the contry have different prices, so we dont talk about pricing here.

Make sure they do a proper heat load and all piping is to be done in black pipe , no copper, unless it's below the water line and that they follow the mfg's piping diagrams. W+M is a very good boiler with a great track record, i use them all the time.
