I hear ya brother. We just got rid of an apprentice for that reason.
My dad tought me good work ethics. Alway to ask for something to do, do what you are asked, and try to learn as much as possible.
I am not sure what happened to the most recent generation. They wan to be treated like a journeyman after their first week.
We tried to hire for experience and got a series of guys who spent a half hour talking smack about their current employer. Like I am going to hire you after that?
Now we are hiring for the attitude and training for the skill. Might win some and lose some but I think it is better for our company in the long run.

Mitchell Mechanical, Inc. is currently seeking a permanant apprentice to learn hydronic and steam heating as well as industrial automation and boiler service.
Successful candidate will recieve paid classroom training and on the job training. Program is 4 years and raises are based upon successful completion of program levels.
