Thanks to Dan, Steamhead, Mad Dog, S. Ebbels, and the rest.

While sitting here going over old gas bills I realized something. It has been 3 years since we replaced our 70+ year old steam boiler and 2 1/2 years since I found this site. In that time thanks to Dan's books and the many questions that Steamhead, Mad Dog and the rest have graciously answered that enabled the restoration of our entire steam system this boiler has almost paid for itself in fuel savings. The average natural gas savings (steamhead follows this) have varied from 40 to 60 percent a month from the "before restoration" state of the system. With the higher savings in the milder months at the beginning and end of the heating season. Since the bills were then averaging over $250 a month (before the increases in natural gas costs) you can do the math. This is based on an 8 month heating season. I live in Northwest lower Michigan 4 blocks away from Lake Michigan. So it gets cold here in the winter. So I will reiterate thanks again. And for the other people who may read this. If you post a steam question and they answer LISTEN to them.

    YES!

I'll echo this statement of gratitude. This is an amazing site with amazing
people who are always willing to give of themselves. WIth a new steam boiler in place complete with dropped header, etc. I now heat my home for much less thanks to all the good information offered here.

Thanks to Dan and all the wonderful pros!

It's the way things should be

Maybe I'm old fashioned or a little nuts but I just plain get a charge out of helping people and making things better than they were.

Glad that you found help here.

Where are you located in NW Lower MI? If I get in your area some day I'd consider it a privilege to stop by and see what you have done. I'm near Cadillac.
