Problems with Tacos IFC pumps

I wouldn't think twice using them on a outdoor reset boiler , a primary secondery system or Basement zone. I get leary using them on a boiler using a coil for hot water or system with large supply piping. Once that water starts to move I will have no faith in that little plastic check..

Any-one eles seeing problems with the newer IFC (internal flow check) pumps by Taco. I'm alittle old school and tend to use stuff that I know works, but have seen lots of problems on service calls. The plastic assembly built in to the out put of the 0011 seems to be the worst.0 -

What kind of problems? When they first came out we soon learned you must "burp" them or it will result in a possible no flow condition due to it becomming air bound.

there are...
two types. The one w/ the IFC in the volute and the one w/ it on the discharge....the volute one had issues especially in you did not purge all the air out. kpc

procedure for \"burping\"
Hi Robert,
I have a contractor that may be experiencing this problem. Is there a way to "burp" this air? These are the IFC's with the check inside the volute.

Loosen the flange bolts on the outlet side, BURP, excuse me. Or make sure you purge to some outlet so water flows through the pump.
I have better luck with them on the supply other than the return. I have never had a problem on any of my installations I have had to purge the pump on installs by other when on return.
It is not the fault of the pump, it is an application thing.0 -
Bill Nye had excellent explanation of the problems with the IFC when installed on the return side. I have a typical piping diagram showing the proper installation instructions when using an IFC type circulator on the return side.Joe Mattiello

burping
Hi Bill,
Thanks for the info. These are on the supply side of Prestige wall hung boilers. The piping is all below the boilers and pumps(boiler room on the top floor), so the check I think was being kept closed as the system filled. The tech was able to get the air out eventually, but I'll pass the burping info out so other techs have it in their "bag o' tricks".
Best regards, Pat0 -
