a word of thanks from a homeowner

Just a quick word of thanks from a homeowner.
I stopped by here first almost a year back, trying to figure out what to do with my 1920s era boiler and two-pipe steam system...
It's cold outside now, and I have a happy family (including one month old newborn) in a warm house with a new Peerless steamer, and this old steam system has never worked so well.
Thanks, everyone, for your help and advice, and extra thanks to Dan for your books and for running this website.
Cheers to all,
-Garret
P.S. I'll be glad to buy some bricks in a few months once this boiler sized hole in my checkbook has filled up a bit. :)

Garret,
You have no idea how nice it is to hear from you. Many drink of the knowledge here but few report back how things panned out.
Can we assume you retained the two-pipe system and have a vaporstat now installed?
Thanks again for stpopping back!0 -
Thanks.
Tell all your friends!Retired and loving it.0 -
Yes indeed... the two-pipe system remains, with new wet return piping and a shiny new vaporstat.
Here's a thread where I posted pics..

Dan, I already have (told my friends). They're all tired of hearing me ramble on about the beauty of steam systems. So now I need to get some new friends!
Best,

Will you do US a favor now?
Try to keep records on the fuel usage, and report back to us over the course of the heating season?
I'm gonna guess that your fuel usage will be MUCH lower with the new system, and the savings will pay for the install in an under 5 year period alone. The electrical and water savings will probably be the icing on the cake !
Congratulations and the way I see it....the installer did fine work. Chris0 -
And now
You are afflicted and infected with the same disease as the rest of us that hang out here.0 -
Yes, indeed!
I went on a historical house walking tour this afternoon, and COULD NOT HELP MYSELF from checking out which old houses still had their steam systems, and which were (painfully) converted to forced air.
Saw a nice bed & breakfast with an intact one-pipe system.. didn't get a chance to talk to the owner... I was surprised not to see TRV's on them.

Toasty radiators
Something to cheer with a glass of Champaign... Oh what a cheap shot.
Congratulations to you, Garret, for being so smart about your comfort and for reporting back to all of us.
Best regards0
