Best option to con-mod boiler

Looking for the best option to using a con-mod boiler. Heat loss is about 45k BTUs, hot water system, cast iron rads, gas-fired. She is dead set against a con-mod boiler, she says she has heard too many "stories" about problems. What can I say, she is set--like a billy goat. So I am looking for my best option, direct/power vent, through the wall. Any suggestions? Hey, it's her house . . .

    next step down

is the cast iron direct vents like Burnham Revolution, Crown Cabo are 85%+ Buderus GA124 and GA224 are also excellent non-conensing boilers.

    How about???

Thanks, Joe. Several supply houses have tried to steer me toward the Utica UB-75 and the Weil-Mclain CGs-3, which are relatively similar in cost. The "best" would probably equate to efficient, long life, and with the least amount of problems. Oh, and reasonably priced. Should I laugh now?
  • I vote for

Utica, I have lots of the Utica cast iorn boilers in and they never have a problem. Check out the rebates available for the 95% mod-con, she might change her mind. Bob Gagnon

    Crown

The Crown Cabo II CWD is an excellent sealed combustion cast iron boiler.

    Revolution

I have installed many of the Burnham Revolutions without problem, they are 87-88% AFUE and in my opinion the next best thing to a Mod/Con.

    What about Dunkirk?

Dunkirk has some aluminum condensing (but not modulating( boilers that are very efficient.

Got one in my own house.

    NICE!

    Cost is no object?

A Viessmann Vitola hands down. It'll take unrestricted water temp down to whatever. MMMMMMMMmmmmmmmm I can just feel those rads running at about 85 or 90* on a cool fall morning. If she's concerned about reliabiity, there isn't anything better. We have several of these out in some pretty heavy duty service, lot's of cycles and run time on 'em and they just keep going and going and going. Dial it in a clean it once in a blue moon.

    Thanks, again

I wouldn't say "Price was no object." Reasonably priced sounds nice. Efficient, of course. An reliable. Yeah, i guess that seems like a lot. But there must be a boiler out there that fits the bill. Right?

    Add...

Add on an indirect to cover the overage and I'd suggest the GA-124 also.

Whisper (scarily so!)quiet, and it looks nice with all the piping coming off the back. I also highly recommend the concentric vent kit. One wall penetration and fairly easy on the eye. JMHO. Chris
