oversized boiler

as the burner "jets", as you say, are fed gas off a manifold, the manifold has a certain gas pressure fed to-it, plugging some of them will just force-it to the others, which will cause the base of the boiler to heat unevenly. The boiler is engineered for this type of flame pattern, changing this may cause premature failure of the unit!

I have a WM cga5 140.000 btu boiler. I am running two zones the first zone has 57 ft of 3/4 baseboard. The 2ed zone has 31 ft of 3/4 baseboard. I plan on doing a addition to the house that would use about 40ft of 3/4 baseboard. The pump is a b&g nrf22. Would it be ok to run this boiler for the winter. All the rooms were sized up using slantfinn heat loss cal. Would also like to put a indirect hot water heater in the system

    Let's see...

When all is said and done you will have, if 600 BTUH per linear foot is assumed, a maximum output of 76,800 BTUH and have a boiler with an output at 80% of 113,000..

It will work but will cycle like crazy on the coldest day and more in milder weather. I take it the boiler is existing?

Is cycleing too mutch a bad thing? the boiler is rated at 102.000net output

Cycling too much is definately not a good thing, as its hard-on the controls, and lowers the eff. of the unit. Liken it to a car, with or without "cruise-control", which-one is better on gas on the highway? Efficiencys are based on steady-state operation. In your case though, your going to add a water heater eventually, so I`d say you are not "drastically" oversized. The next size down in WM-CGA`s, is 77M net, add a water heater to this without "priority- wiring", and you will be "undersized" then.

i think you may be going long on the one BB loop

might want to dial the length down a bit it does somewhat depend on how much is where ....still though 57 ' is little over the top.

Can I plug off some jets to bring down the btu`s for now or is that not a good idea.I was reading on this web site that 67 ft is max on 3/4 baseboard loop
