    Direct Vent Limits?

I was talking with a friend and he told me that the limit for direct venting oil-fired boilers was 115,000 BTU's. He said that boilers that are direct-vented and run higher then this have a shorter life expectancy. I was wondering if anyone had any literature or experience to back this claim, if it is true. Thanks

    I know that

a few years back there were some issues with some direct vent boilers and a couple of companies took all but there smallest boilers off of being direct vented. Since I do not do much with oil direct venting I did not really pay close attention to it though.

    seems to me...

that 115k btu is a fairly large house...they don't want to spend the "extra" money to do a chimney? I avoid them if I can... I have used the Buderus 115 series a number of times w/ mixed results....warm basements are better places for them. kpc

    Bigger DV's

    Chris,
I know Burnham makes their MPO in a direct vent version and I believe it goes all the way up to 200MBH, I haven't heard anything bad about them and they've been out a couple of years. I've used a bunch of the std MPO's and lov'em.
