Steam Boiler Question

I'd say if it's working fine, great. I've noticed the water line thing too. I'll leave that that to those who no more than I, but my guess would be it's just a function of the water boiling and the water isn't backing out the return.
What kind of noise are you getting from the hydronic loop?
The feeder and probe type are fine. The probe type usually fail the other way, they won't sense a low water condition. The probe should be inspected each year and cleaned.

Just had my steam boiler replaced with a Weil Mclain EG-40, cleaned, skimmed, and running for about 1 month now. After reading We Got Steam Heat I was expecting the water level in the sight glass to drop slightly when the boiler was steaming. THe water level actually rises about 1 inch act bounces around very slightly but not violently. All radiators get hot within 20-25 minutes. It seems OK but I was expecting the water level to fall. Any ideas?
Also have a hot water zone with a Bell & Gossett circulator (not sure of the model) off the steam boiler. The hot water zone works with and without the boiler steaming on an independent thermostat. The only issue is that when the steam thermostat is satisfied, and the hot water zone is still calling, I get some loud noises for a few minutes and then it goes back to normal. No issues when only steaming or only running the hot water zone. I assume this issue has something to do with pressure but would like a bit more clarity.
Is the auto water feeder dangerous to have along with a probe LWCO device? What happens when the filthy boiler water clogs the probe. Does the auto water refill device just keep filling until I get a flood. I understand that the probe should be cleaned annually but I am not sure this is a solid control arrangement.0 -
