Buderus G115-21 question

The NPT thread is straight not tapered ,The supply tap is also a NPT thread.. NPT would not split the block like you can with a tapered thread.. You noticed the special marked conversion nipple ?

  • We started a 2 day project

using rhe Buderus boiler and indirect combo . So far it's going quite well . Except for one little thing -

The 3/4 inch port for the boiler drain . There is some kind of insert installed that changes the threads to 3/4 NPT ( I'm guessing ) . But they ain't tapered . The boiler drain that came with the boiler threaded all the way in without stopping . We tried another 3/4 drain , same deal .

Is there something we're doing wrong ?

Thanks for any help in advance , Ron .

Hey Ron hows it going man? You guys are putting in a buderus not a burnham??? You must be psyched to get a little change for once! The 3/4 boiler drain tap is inherent to that product line. I usually solve it with a 3/4x space nip, coupling and drain that way you don't end up with an upside down drain. Go like 8 times with tephlon and even though it still may feel loose, it won't leak. Good luck! Are you using the logomatic?

I'll go for it . I dunno about this hand tight stuff , but if you say it'll hold , then it'll hold ( I'm still crossing my fingers :) .

I noticed the return port is right next to the boiler drain . Any reason why the boiler can't be drained from the return port ? I put a drain on there too .

    Thanks alot Mark .
  • Hey Ray

Things are going bonkers down here . EVERYONE waited till the first chill in the air to upgrade their equipment . I think I've been saying that for the past 20 years though . And I'm one of em' .

The customer went with Buderus for a few reasons , the main one being a 5 inch liner in the chimney ( the MPO is 6 inch ) . Another was the Logamatic R2107 . I've read the literature for the Tier 3 bundled for Burnham and it's an amazing control , but way too much control for these small residential systems . This home is just 2 zones with an indirect .

Good idea with the nip and coupling , I think I'll try that . I'll wrap the crap out of the nipple too . Any reason why they make that adapter so loose for the drain ?

Thanks Ray . How you been doing ?

    ron

the return port acts to disperse the cooler water when it comes back...it has a flow diverter thingy there...I suppose they don't want to create a problem...I used a nipple in mine...but of course it leaked in mine ...not a job I did...kpc

I think I heard once that they are not tapered threads, they are flat... A few years ago the tank fittings on the buderus used to be flat too. They used to give you loctite lampwick to wick the threads otherwise you where guaranteed a leak! We've been busy as heck too just got home from a boiler job an hour and fourty five from my house, nice little GB/30 with a storage tank. Fun stuff!
  • Yep , we used

the supply nip . I wonder why they wouldn't use the same type nip for the return and the drain ? What are those conversion gaskets made of ?
  • Been in the club

since 1996 . Did a piggyback boiler / indirect . Back when all the instructions were in German . Gotta say their customer support was excellent even back then .
  • It always happens

to your own stuff , huh ? When I installed a Peerless in my home the coil leaked internally , of course .

I am still trying to figure out .....

....... what the large flat nuts are used for on the Buderus hand truck ????

The truck by the way is a must when you install the G115's . Takes it right off the skid and bounces the boiler down the stairs . The tubed tires work well rolling over a lawn too. The handle has a nice feel and give a lot of control.
The wing nuts on the truck bolts the truck right to the back of the boiler . But G215 I am sorry to say will not and uses the supplied skinny strap... Which I am leery trusting since I prefer the bottom.
