Steam Expert in Worcester, MA Area

We used to have the Ice Cats, then they were sold and moved to Peoria or somewhere out west. We had no team last year but now we have a new team, the Sharks. Now I have to buy the kids all new stuff! Great entertainment at a reasonable price - especially when the alternative is handing over my wallet to see a Bruins game at the "Gahden".

I had posted yesterday about replacing my 30+ year old WM steam boiler vs. converting to hydro air.

The overwhelming response is to keep steam and find a true expert to make the system operate at peak performance. I have a quote for a new top of the line WM boiler, riello burner, and conections to my existing superstor. However, I believe in getting second opinions and would like the board's view on other experts to consider.

The house is a 1930 colonial with a single pipe system heating about 2300 sf. Last year we used about 1000 gallons of oil (both heat and hot water). We have had some issues with variable heat in some rooms and so I want to make sure the new boiler is sized correctly and the overall system balanced.

Suggestions on who to consider? I checked the listing board and there are some folks, the closest not really mentioning steam and others fairly far away.

    Thank you.

If you remove your steam heat system, let me know so I can pick up your radiators :) All joking aside, I wouldn't remove it for any type of FHA system.

As far as a replacement quote, did you try Ed Wallace and Paul Lessard to see if they'll drive all the way there? Both are listed under Find a Professional.

    Another steam system lives on!!!!!!

Great to hear your going to continue on with the existing sytem, IMHO there's not heat like steam heat. You may want to consider looking into one of the new 3-pass steam boilers by Burnham, I think they are just hitting the market now. The Weil Mclain w/ Riello is certainly a great combination, but if you have a chance to go with a three pass, it's worth a try in my opinion.

Let me know how you make out. I sure wish we had a steamhead-type in Central Mass. I would like to talk to someone about my near boiler piping, mains, and returns. And best venting solutions. Running the Gortons all around, but still needs tweaking. Maybe Steamhead could start making road trips to Mass.

I'm from Shrewsbury(Next to Worcester). I was lucky that my Oil company(Northboro Oil) has a good steam man. It would be nice to know there are other Pro's in the area in case I need help.

Dan, is this where you start telling them about the FAP add?
