This job would have been a quick install if the damn salesman had'nt thought the unit could go on the inside wall :)

As you can see, Chris dos a nice, neat, well thought out install. These GB's just purr.

You're not kidding Scott, Chris does do some nice work. I'm loving the new insulated blocks that now come with the GB too.

Nice job. I see the propress makes your work look consistant too.

    Nice

    Neat work.

Also nice to see Buderus making refinements to their product.

    Looks great!

The insulation kit for the Buderus header is a nice touch too. And when the water heater fails, you can easily hook it up via the pipe stub sticking out. Nice!

Keeping the pumps lower than the electrics presumably keeps the latter dry even during changeouts, even though such changeouts shouldn't do much in terms of spillage since you fitted iso flanges.

Does the expansion tank sit in a cradle?

    Thanks for the compliments guys.

Ted, I'm getting better with the Propress all the time. The tricks to keeping the pipes straight are an accomplished task at this point. I'm trying my best with it.

Constantin, the expansion tank isn't sitting in a cradle, but is close enough to the floor to change it when needed. The space was VERY limited, and I made the use of as much as I could.

I'm surprised that noone commented on the 2 drops going into the condesate pump.( a vari-bit came in REAL handy to make this work!) The space on the left was limited both by the stud and the trap from the flue pipe was as close to the top as I could have ever made...and the 2 didn't mix to form the "drawing" that Buderus provides.Notice the course of block placed on top of the foundation pour? Methinks the builder missed a steel beam that was placed in the center of the building...after the foundation was poured.

As usual, this is another "one off" install. I'm still anticipating that envious "square and flat" place to have a job in! Chris

Chris, great work! I know what you mean about the pro press it is a chore sometimes keeping everything square. Love the emt versus bx cable on the high voltage. Do you do your own wiring? Why the second trap on the condensate at the boiler condensate drain? Theres already one in the boiler right? I hope I haven't been doing them wrong all this time! How long did this install take? Just curious. How are you controlling with the outdoor reset or indoor or neither? Happy pipefitting in the great bay state.

Why the two drops for the condensate?

Keep these good pics coming guys

I have an internet connection in my classroom. I show these pics to my class and they are agog. A lot of their shops just do chop and drop. Although I am seeing more awareness in this forced air community of the quality hydronics can bring. Nice work as always Chris. BTW I found some Loc tite 55 the other day. I had to send away to the Fergesons in Roanoke VA to get it. :) WW

    Mark,

Have you HAD seafood lately? Be quiet or I'll shut you off completely! (Damn Kids!)

Ray, Yes...there is a built in trap for the boiler condensate...but Buderus shows one underneath the boiler going to the condensate pump, connected to the drop from the flue pipe drain.... and I ain't eating an install for not following directions. The space wouldn't allow it in this instance, so I went with my gut.

I'm sure there is a reason for it, and can only speculate that the cup being below the "boiler condensate", and not being connected to it is the reason. I MAY be wrong, but dry traps are a source of foul smells and gasses unwanted in a living space. (what do I know from plumbing stuff?...I'm a lowly heating technician) JCA

    Buderus

This is from Buderus. I asked this question recently as well.

"If the condensate drain is trapped under the PVC exhaust, then an additional trap is not required down by the GB142. The condensate tank in the GB142 is trapped. The square box shown in the manual is something they use in Holland. They included the picture in error."

    Nice job

Looks great! Pride in looks and quality job. Thank you for sharing the pictures. Did you know we offer a stand for the GB142 if there is no wall space.

    Thanks Joe,

Yes I have seen the stand, but the headroom was the big consideration it this install.

It's a used space...(laundry, which fouled the old boiler considerably),and the Mrs. whacking her head on, or ducking under the vent pipes were the main concern. Side clearence was also a must in this instance. They wanted to be able to open the dryer door without hitting their heads or being shut out by the circulators.

Lets just say that the tape measure was working overtime for this one, and other than a few miscalculations...did it's job well. Not to mention that I learned a WHOLE lot that day too! (the space /time continum will be allowed to carry on!) Chris

    Ted,

My clear thinking is that the trap IS necessary. If it weren't trapped from the condensate pump, the airspace would allow for some foul smells if ,like this unit, only runs for heat right now.

If it was piped right to the drop from the trap in the boiler, I would agree, but that space between the "cup" and the drop from the internal tank makes me think otherwise. Chris

    Very nice

    Looks great as always Chris!

We have about 6 of those insulation "thingamabobs" in the shop because we always forget to install them BEFORE the manifold is installed.

What did this job have for heat emission?

    Gibby,

Fin tube baseboard, but they will work nicely with it, We hope to add hot water in the near future. From the look of the 3 year old gas fired heater there now, I'm guessing it won't be long. JCA

Hey Chris. I just want the readers to know that what I quoted was from Buderus, USA.
