Proper Replacement Boiler Size

More help for the homeowner...

I am in the process of receiving quotes for new boilers and have requested sizing calculations with the quotes for a special energystar financing program. So far the quotes have all come back without this information. Two people measured the amount of baseboard in the house (185 feet in four zones) and a second just noted the square footage 2589 sf with an additional 720 sf of finished basement. There is also a three year old, indirect water heater. The house is a two story colonial built in 1986.

What is standard for the industry for quotes? How do they translate these numbers into BTU needs and is there an on-line reference so I can compare their recommendations?

Thanks.

there is a heat loss calculator at the top of this page on the bottom gold bar and you can do your own Heat Loss Calc and see how it compares to the boiler size you are quoted.
