Are the zone valves on the supply or returns?

    banging noise/hydronic heat

The boiler information is listed below for this bi-level house: approx. 50-75,000 BTU
Hydrotherm approx. 35-40 yrs. old/ millivolt gas valve
Taco 007/with ciculator relay (on return/1")
    (2) Honeywell zone valves (1yr.old on supply..3/4" with 1" feed)
    (2) 3/4" return lines with shutoffs & purge valves (1" feed)
    tridicator is not reading properly
The problem is with the 2nd flr. zone in the rear bedroom....the customer hears the pipes shake in the middle of the night during normal heating season (mostly when it shutsdown). When I was testing both zones...it was approx. 68 degrees inside & about 65 degrees outside. Both zones were extremely quiet & I did not hear any banging noise.
    Please advise Thanks, T.W.

Any chance the zone valves are installed backwards?

    banging

    Tom,

Sounds like it may be those Honeywell ZV's closing to quickly causing a "hammer" effect.
I like the taco ZV for this and other reasons.

Dan, any chance this could be solved by installing a differential pressure by-pass? Or would it open too slowly? Just curious if you have exhausted that idea already.
