deterioration of anode rod leading to clogging of shower valve

I have a Rinaii tankless water heater preheating a 5 gallon electric buffer tank with a recirculating line. The problem is that we have excessive breakdown or deterioration. Our water temperature is 120-125 degrees and municiple water. We have tried replacing the anode rod with an alumininum and magnesium rod, nothing helps. The shower valves and lav faucets clogg up in a short time. Have any ideas on what the cause could be?

    water

Is this municipal water or is this well water? What does the sediment look like?

If it is well water, is it possible that you have sediment in the water supply?

    Go to the town

and ask for a water analysis. It is public record, so available. I think, that should at least tell you what you are starting with. I'm assuming the filter on the CW inlet is plugging. You could go to a cartridge filter on the CW inlet and recirc back around to the inlet side of that filter. You would probalby need a check valve on the CW supply to the cartridge then also.

I agree. The material you see is the remnants of the anode rod.
