    boiler auto fill

    Hi,
    The auto fill on the water line to our steam boiler stopped working last spring. Is replacing it a DIY job or do I need a professional?
    Thanks!!

    Why did it stop working??

    if it is because the LWCO it broken or mucked up that needs attention ASAP, I would go for a pro first.

    Hi,

    To be honest, I don't know what "LWCO" means. In any case, I don't know why it stopped working. At the end of the season last spring the boiler would not come on because the water level would get too low. The boiler worked fine when I used the maual override. Is there a way to check the problem?

    LWCO= Low Water Cut-Off

    It is a device which, on a steam boiler, has a float activated switch. If the water level drops the boiler stops firing. It is an essential safety device; if in doubt, yes, call a pro. The auto fill may look similar and that is the second line of defense and to me more of a convenience.

    Could also be

    a probe type Low Water Cut-Off and if it gets loaded with junk, it may not "see" water/continuity.

    Until you know WHY it doesn't work, you may be chasing a ghost.

    Probably better to get a pro in on this one. If for no other reason than to prove WHAT failed.
