it sounds like you have a leak and it make be sending staem out the chimney every time it fires unless you have burried wet returns that are leaking under the floor I'd say time for a pro. Have you check the FIND A PROFESSIONAL link at the top of this page for a pro in your area

Furance Shut off
I recently purchased a house with a Burnham Low Pressure Boiler (model PV735L-HBUR). It has a low water cut-off mechanism attached to it but it seems that the water level goes down very quickly in the gauge glass and then the furnace turns off, over the weekend it only lasted 2 hours. There doesn't seem to be any external leakage on the floor but I wasn't sure if I coil could be leaking or something. Why would the water level be falling so fast? The water in the glass gauge also looks very brown, is that a problem? I have also been told that I have to manually feed the water every few days, these seems overly manual,is there anyway of having the water regulate itself automatically, otherwise the heat will turn off if I go away for a few days?0 -
Good call Bruce...............
That`s the route you should go Gwen!0 -
Hello Gwen
Fill the boiler the the level needed and start the boiler and go out side after it starts to make steam, if you have white smoke coming out the chimney, i would call a pro into check it out, but i would do something soon , if its a wet return leak and you constanly adding water , thats not good for the boiler...

burnham steam boilers
they have had problems with them leaking in the past, (3-5 yrs ago). the top area of a section would( rot ) corrode away. when it's running go outside, look at the chimney, and if you see white smoke. it's steam from the boiler and you have a leak and a bad boiler. check with the manuf. it may still be under warrantee. dana p.0 -
