    Insul-Tarp under radiant

Does anyone have any experience with a product called Insul-Tarp. A customer is requesting we use it for an in-floor radiant basement job. We have always used 1.5 to 2 inch foam. The web site does not give an R value.

    Insultarp...

has been around a while...and its ok. One nice thing it incorporates in insulation and vapor barrier in one....I still prefer the tried and true foam board. kpc

  • I looked too............

strange that they don`t give an R-value. I wonder if its like that "bubble-wrap" stuff?

The insultarp says that it gets an R-10 equivalent. It is conprised of the tarp with silver side facing inside, one layer of bubblewrap, and two layers of polyethelene foam with the other side of the tarp with the silver facing in. Supposedly 1/2" thick but varies.

    Foil

I am suspect of any product that uses silver facing under a slab. The silver facing may help reflect radiant energy, but there is no radiation under a slab.

  • \"Equivalent\"

I`ve heard that before, I had a guy tell me his was "equivalent" to R11, it was "Reflectix". I went on the website and right there it said R-1.1! If it`s that much better why wouldn`t they insulate the walls and attics of houses with the stuff?

    insulation under the slab................

try checking w/ the rpa..........they probably have info on this...

  • It is NOT an R10 equivalent, no matter what they claim.

It is about an R 1.6 or so.

    Not worth the money.
  • actually

    they don't

i saw some JM 1/4 4X8 sheets of foam board...

i would hazard a wild guess that has a higher R value.

i wondered what was with the stuff buh i hate to be mr Guinea pig on everything that comes down the pike....:)

    Sales Pitch...

We rate Insul Tarp at R .9-1.0.

    Underslab applications use 2" foam.
