How long should a properly sized steam boiler take to fully heat all the radiators in a average house. Room temperature not being a factor.

    Thank you

    \"Room Temperature Not Being a Factor\"

is sort of like starting an essay on human flight with the statement, "assuming gravity can be ignored".... :)

So, let's take room temperature out of the equation. (The room is at setpoint temperature or a little above.) Boiler is off because it is satisfied.... OK, that's no good....

Can we assume the pipe is insulated at least?

Assuming proper venting, the steam at the lowest pressure you can generate will go to the furthest radiator faster than you can walk to it.

Now, this is where room temperature comes into play; the condensing ebb and flow will occur until that radiator is warm -but you know that. And it will take some time, dependent on the room temperature.

If you can get steam to all rads in 20 minutes...

    The nozzle/input is too big!

The "norm" is not based on all rads getting hot. The norm is based on how long before the rad affecting the 'stat does its job!

Studies have found anything faster than 25 minutes is probably over-fired, and anything slower than 40 is underfired. 30-35 therefore being ideally "matched."

This assumes an ambient boiler water temp of ~60-70 degrees. as well as a morning boost or start-up mode event.

This delay period will obviously be longer or shorter depending on the temperature of the rads and the rooms they are located in.

    Hope that helps.
