Riello Burners

I used to rebuild the pistons by replacing the o rings inside, but since the new ones came out its tough to get ahold of the o rings, so I gave up that venture and started stocking the electric ones

  • Hydrolic Jack........

Anybody ever had any problems with the "Hydrolic Jack" leaking on the Riello/Mectron oil burners? This valve opens the air-shutter.

    yes that does happen.

there is an electric air shutter that they have had now for years..
  • First one............

for me, I had to call Riello direct to get told that. I have alot of these in. The Riello guy said this only seems to happen in Canada, weird eh? I`m gonna start stocking this electric-one!
  • Nice idea Norm................

but they`re not an "O ring" in these. I did wind-up changing the seal to get me out of a jam, but its more like a "neoprene plunger-cup", shaped like an old "piston-pump-leather". I hawked-one out of an old parts burner I had.

Well, it happens in Connecticut too. We've changed a couple in the last few months.
  • OK Paul............

But I`m just telling ya what the Riello guy here told me.LOL!

    Riello Piston

The piston can leak and as you hjave found out it will. The problem come from the gasket in the piston from time to time you may get some some grit or whatever in the piston and it louges inbetween the wall of the piston and the gasket, causing leakage. I would rather the piston to the electric damper, I have had problems with them mostly gears breaking. Best way to insure nop leak at the piston is clean fuel.....

    Riello piston

That problem showed up a few years ago. The story I heard was that Riello changed the type of material they used for the gasket. We removed the piston and plugged the pump. (that's the plug they give you with that memo telling you why the piston may start to leak.)
We used the electric dampers for awhile. No problems. Love the burner.

    jack seal leakage

That had a memo with new F40 burners that aromatic oils in Canada can affect the hydrolyic jack seal. Check technical notice 99-03R3.

I did one that was packaged for a Weil McLain Gold.

It had a notice about "high aromatics" and a replacement seal made of the other material. I think it did mention Canada as well.
