Squick Vs. Scout

You can void the manufacturer's warranty if you use a flocculant like Squick on most C.I. steamers.
The "slime" that forms on the boiler bottom/base as a result of the floccing process creates an eggshell-like substance that under some conditions, and over time can produce incredible tension on the c.i., making it crack! That crack is the result of the differing rate of expansion of c.i., and the "eggshell" that drops to the boiler base - when heated.
Fact: W/M (for sure) will not warrant a boiler sectional crack from flocculant caused cleaners! The liklhood of a flocculant agents causing a cracked boiler? SWAG: 1 in 50?
When TSP is cheaper, safer, easier to use, and known to have no adverse effects whatsoever...
Why take a chance?

Squick Vs. Scout
I have a new steam boiler that needs some skimming. Are these two cleaners the same? Is one better than the other?
Thanks0 -
Use neither.
Squick is a flocculant, not a detergent. You do not want to leave all the crap in, floating to the bottom by floccing. You want the solids to exit via the drain, not coat the lower block with crap, become a layer of ceramic like "egg-shell" which can damage and crack a c.i.boiler.
I assume Scout is the same thing, just a different manufacturer.
TSP the boiler water, almost let it turn to steam, dump the whole system (drain it) and refill with clean water.
Need more info, e-mail me directly. This topic has come up every month for years and is boring to all who have read it over and over again.

fielders choice
Squick is a quick fix but it works. has been on market well over forty years that i know of so they must be doing something right.true skimming & cleaning is very time consumming so take your pick. the correct, hard way or the easy way. scout is a knock-off of original brand. never compared ingredients tho.0
