Mod Con Replacement Boiler - Old System

the manufacturer's instructions as to near-boiler piping principally. Beyond that, understanding the entire boiler, piping, radiation and controls as a system.
For example, knowing what your radiation potential is versus your heat loss, avoiding bypasses and short circuits that might increase return water temperature (the coldest return water is the best for efficiency).
If you have multiple zones using the same temperature, assuring that the flow rates from one does not quench condensing for one thing. Knowing the hierarchy of temperatures is critical if you have a multi-temperature system.
Cleaning, flushing and treatment as mentioned, purging.
Those are a few "keys". Requires thinking a little differently if you are used to dealing with cast iron boilers.

Mod Con Replacement Boiler - Old System
What kind of problems might I encounter by installing a Mod Con replacement boiler on an existing system with old fashioned radiators and piping? Temperature? Flow? Electronic Start up problems?

Properly installed, you should only experience an increase in efficiency and a decrease in fuel consumption. Installation is the key.

modcon with radiators
I always like to use a wye strainer on the return side of the system piping, and also like to clean the system with TSP or some other scale remover...we use the munchkin and the heat exchanger as you know is very thin and I do not want to clog it up..

Conventional vs. condensing
Am I missing something?
How about a well-thought attack before the installation begins?
Are you going to realize a 93% to 98% AFUE in an applicaton of high temp. cast iron radiators?
Will the return water temps. be low enough to allow for condensation to take place?
If not, is that additional money spent for a mod-con worth it?
A Buderus GA-124 with a Tekmar 256 might seem like a viable alternative on this job.
Whattaya think?

Spiral-drain
We use a spiral-drain on all mod/cons systems connect to an existing CI radiator system. Easy to flush out and matches spiral vent.
