Indirect water heater

I am installing a Buderus GB 142/60 modulating boiler in a multifamily dwelling ( 4 kithens 4 baths ). Not sure wich indirect to install. Buderus ST 300, Weil Mclain Gold plus 80, or the Turbomax 23. Any feedback on the Turbomax since it is much more compact?

    With 4 apartments

I'd be worried only having 80 gal when 4 showers were going at the same time in the morning. The TurboMax is a reverse indirect, so it can generate tons of hot water if you can throw the BTU's at it. I'd go with the Turbomax if I could put the tank on priority.

Well the boiler I am going to use is rated 214,800 input BTU. Do you think the ST 300 or WM will not handle the load on priority? Whats there now is just a 50 gal gas direct fired, 50,000 BTU input. How well is the Turbomax constructed?

    They're used

more often in comercial areas for large high water demands. Carbon Steel jacket with copper coils for the domestic water. I just feel that if 4 people try to fill tubes at the same time, you could still empty the tank faster then the recovery rate. You're right. It's a rare occurance, but I'd just want to make sure I never heard a complaint. Keep pumping 200° boiler water through it and you could draw hot water forever. The 26 gals of boiler water will probbably act as a good buffer tank also preventing short cycling.

I understand that one should install a mixing valve for the DHW, especially if you use the Turbomax tank. Any comments on mixing valves and wich ones are better?

    I have used both...

the Taco 5000 series and the Sparco/Honeywell AM series one...both are fine. I like the gaskets on the Honeywell better. kpc
