Boiler decision

Properly installed AND adjusted, ANY condensing/modulating boiler driving a cast iron radiator system will prove FAR, FAR, FAR more efficient than the difference in AFUE implies.

NOBODY expects a condensing/modulation boiler to last as long as any simple cast iron boiler--be it an old "snowman" or a relatively new "cube". Plus EVERYBODY knows that the condensing/modulating boilers require annual or semi-annual cleaning and examination. Neglect such and you're likely to SIGNIFICANTLY reduce the service life of the boiler.

Based on your heat loss you should use a Munchkin T-50, not the T-80!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Boiler Selection

I am getting ready to purchase a new boiler for a retro, heat loss of 50K BTUs, HW, gas-fired, ci rads in a 2 story house. Trying to decide between the Ultra-80, Trinity ti150, or Munchkin 80. We can go either way with the DHW, since there's an old gas HW heater in place presently, but it can go. Any ideas which might be "better," considering realiability and efficiency, oh, and ease of installation? Any other choices come to mind, I'd like to hear them. Can't help but wonder if it's not wiser to go with a middle-of-the-road fixed fire unit that's less than half the cost of the 90+ units.
