Broken Return pipe at entrance to boiler

The return pipe at the entrance to the boiler started leaking at a joint just centemeters from the boiler. I let it go and when I tried to clean the area to put epoxy on the leak, the whole thing deteriorated and now the leak is a break in the pipes. I tried the epoxy, but the area is so damaged that it doesn't adhere well. I'm afraid I'm going to need a new furnace. Any sugggestions? Can a good plumber fix this? There is still a little bit of pipe coming out of the boiler, but it is very corroded and it's not smooth, because there is a broken facets from where the pipe is tightened with a wrench. I'm trying to avoid having to replace the boiler, even though it is 8o years old and covered in asbestos.

just hire a plumber, and tell them your not in the market to replace-it, and if he/she is any kind of a tradesperson, they will be able to repair! Remember, we put our pants-on one leg at a time too!

Nearly anything can be repaired--for a price. There are however times when replacement really is the better choice. A good serviceman will give you an honest opinion.
