I've taken out more than a few F/A systems and installed HWH or RFH but never taken out a hydronic system in put forced air in it's place.

It doesn't happen often
but it does happen.
Just got an e-mail from the folks I visited last night that wanted to replace the FHA system that they replaced the original HW system with.
Did I say that right???
Anyway..........the FHA system is out and my new HW system is in. I sized the bsbd to meet design day conditions with the lowest water temp listed on the manufacturer's spec sheet. 150 degree supply water temp. on design day. We WILL be condensing for the majority of the season. It works folks.
One zone of radiant with plates AND OD reset.
Buderus GB142-24 with the AM10 control.
Pics will follow when we start.
Darin is gonna' be ticked.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHHAA!

it sounds positively European
Hi Mark,
I love the idea of sizing the radiation for lowest water temperature. The Germans have a law for that.
Best regards, Pat0 -
Thanks Pat
No reason we can't accomplish the same things here.
Just have to step out of the box.
Best wishes sir!

You do realize
That by designing the HWBB for 150°, you're going to nearly double the linear footage of BB you'd need otherwise and therefore nearly double the cost?
They'll love it when their utility bill comes on real low, quickly making up the differnce in the cost.
Rock on!0 -
OOOOPS!
YAH!
Ain't it great?
Thanks Jeff.
180 is dead.

i take that to heart *~/:)
i like the lower temp mixed lower and lower step functioned down lower and lowerwhen someone looks at the "idiot gauge and it is looking 70 and the room is looking 70 the supply to the injection just kicked up a notch and the return is 70 from the field they think i am some sort of miricale worker

That's good news Mark
I've been using the 150 design temps too, though on panel rads and hot water coils. You must have shown them the value.WW

Baseboard
Who's baseboard are you using.Slantfin has ratings on their site down to 140F.I've been told that they will give you ratings for even lower temps if you contact them.
Great Sell

Nice Work Mark!
Siggy's book has a very nice calculation to use for calculating baseboard output at any temp you like.
Once you do your load calc, look for the room that has the highest load per linear foot of baseboard you can cram in there. Find the water temp for that room.
Size the rest of the rooms BB based on that water temp, whatever it may be..
You may start thinking 150 is too high0 -
Thanks Rob
I need to get Siggy's book.
Baseboard under 150.....I like that.
Now if I could get my golf game that low..........

Petite 7
I just looked again and they list 140 too.
I'll check the house again to make sure I have enough wall space for 140 max.
Thanks Dobber

Good save Mark
This will definitely be a good one . What percentage of homes up near you are FHA ? Any chance of using the existing ductwork for A/C ? Or is the whole shebang being ripped out ?
I can't wait to see the pics , Mark .

sweet
I have 28' of petite 7 in my basement zone off od reset. As low as 115*.
On constant in the dead of winter, tstat says 70 , but the BB always feel cool to me for that nice cold 70 effect. I'm not worried though its just " Temporary " or that's what I tell the wife until I can put some radiant panels down on the slab.
Nice job ! I take it that an indirect will be installed also.
Make sure you actually get the AM10, our favorite supplier may give you a GB already in stock without it.
Best regards.

Duct work
The system is so poorly designed that it really isn't salvagable. The leakage on the return side pulls air from the wet and moldy basement and sends it through the house.
The distribution is terrible. One low return on the second floor located in a hallway. Second floor rooms do not cool in the summer and they do not heat in the winter. We would have to tear open walls to remedy this situation.
The owners have had enough and want it all torn out. I have suggested they consider Mitsubishi ductless splits for their cooling needs.
Oh......wait until you see the pumps I will be using.

No indirect
the customer has a 6 mos. old power vented water heater in place. I will be leaving taps for a future indirect though.
Regarding the AM10. You read my mind. I mentioned it three times in my conversation with my salesman. So I can pretty much count on it NOT being in the box! HAHAHAHAHAHAHHA!
Thanks Devan.
