Cleaning Gas Boiler

Very good information, boiler guy came out, found the flue pipes and the liners very clean. He pulled the burners as well, blew them out but again they were clean as well.
Was nice to know what to expect of the boiler guy and nice to know my system is running clean.
Thanks again,
Neil

What to look for when Pro is cleaning.
I have a 2 yrs old Burnham Series 2 gas boiler, standing pilot light, hot water system. I would like to have a pro come in (I am in Nassau LI, NY) and clean the system as well as a combustion test/CO etc. I would like to know what is being done to my boiler, at least the basics, and looking at the boiler I just can’t see how it is cleaned, other than the burners at the bottom.
I want to be educated about what to expect when it comes to cleaning the boiler.
Thanks,
Neil

cleaning and treating a gas boiler
Check out our web site www.rhomarwater.com under both hydronic and steam systems.
Also, there is an archived article of mine in April 2004 issue of PM Magazine George Hunt It is available on the Internet.0 -
More Along / Exc / Soot
George:
I see the chamicals are for the pipes and water treatment, I was thinking more along the line of the boiler guts its self for say rust and soot etc.

The top of the jacket is removed along with the collection hood. This exposes the flue passages and a soot brush is run between the sections.
Hope this helped.

cleaning boiler
Also when cleaning the flue passages he'll need to remove the burners and that's a good time to clean them as well. He should also blow out the pilot tube and clean the orifice. I would also expect him to check the charge of the expansion tank after he takes the system pressure off of it. These are the things I'd do when going out to clean a boiler.0 -
PM is a good thing but you shouldn't see any soot unless there is a problem. When a gas boiler is producing soot it has a problem..............Dan0 -
Rookies right
Rookie is right, you really shouldn't see soot unless there is a problem on a 2 yr. old gas fired C.I. boiler. I've seen burners get covered with drywall dust and saw dust from the finish carpenter setting his chopbox right next to the boiler. This produced the lazy yellow flame that sooted up the passages. If you do have to access the heat exchanger and remove burners, I'd give him a flat rate price to go above and beyond the normal service work.
