Weil Mclain Ultra vs Buderus GB142

Thanks. This is how we came up with the size of boiler. Installed radiation totals about 226,000 BTU's. Present boiler uses about 133,000 input gas BTU's clocked by timing the gas meter. On the coldest day of the year the house heats but the boiler runs constant. Can not increase input gas to boiler because it rumbles something horible. We are now adding an indirect wich was never on the old boiler. Yea, I could get away with a smaller boiler but I figure if I add a garage or something like that extra capacity cant hurt. This is a modulating boiler so that's a plus if its sized a little to big?

Weil Mclain Ultra vs Buderus GB142 upgrade

I am looking to replace a 30 year old Weil Mclain boiler that was converted from oil to gas using a Midco E20 power gun. This is a 4 family home(4 kithens and 4 baths ) with 4 zones of baseboard and 1 zone of 13 cast iron raditors sized 34" W x 23" H x 5" D ( 23 sections ).Also a 50 gal. direct fired gas 75,000BTU water heater.
I am considering the Weil Mclain Ultra 230 and the Buderus GB 142 /60 both wall hung condensing boilers, with and indirect tank, possibly Turbomax S23.My main question is which is a better boiler of the two,and why, should I use and indirect tank made by Weil Mclain, Buderus, or Turbomax.
Current gas bill $ 5000.00 per year. Any ideas on savings with new equip? Use all pumps, or 1 pump and zone valves?
Any feedback will be greatly appreciated.

    Both are

good units. I would consider the HTP Munchkin as well. Good quality, made in the U.S., parts availability excellent, mid 90's AFUE's and before going further, have a heat loss done. I'd bet money the one you have is grossly oversized!

Domestic hot water is also possible with an indirect d/h/w heater.

I'd also bet money your fuel bill with a properly sized unit will be reduced by 1/3.

Unless you are actually in this biz, I urge you to look at the very top "bar" of this website under "Find a Professional." Plug in your zip code and see who's nearby. If the first thing out of their mouth isn't, "First, we need to do a heat-loss calculation...," Find someone else.

Suggesting matching up the BTU rating of your existing boiler is NOT the way to plan for a replacement!!!
