two directions

Guys help me out here, while repiping the near boiler piping it wasnt unusall that it had two take offs from the header going to the rear of the house and one to the front. the take offs are in proper location after the boiler risers to the header. What was unusall was that these two steam mains going opposite directions 2 1/2 inch mains had no t&p traps and they where connected to each other at the end of thier runs via 1 1/2 inch pipe this pipe had a tee to the return. I had figured that we would have two t&p traps with two dry returns feeding one wet return. this doesnt seem right does it? what is the proper way for two directional feed on a two pipe system?

not all 2-pipe systems have F&T traps. How about taking some pics and posting them? Boiler & piping around boiler, some radiators, the piping you described... we'll be better able to help if you do this.
