like father like son

I have been blessed with a wonderful son. He's 17 now, my "change of life baby". He is a pitcher for his HS Varsity Baseball team, has worked past two summers w/ me on the job, at 6' and 165, he's a tower of strength. So, as my father did for me, I did for him. Bought him his first car for his B'day. Just like me, he insisted the first one be a "stick"...Dad, I just gotta have a stick. I said those exact words to my Dad back in '64. I got a '63 Corvair back then. Today my son got a '96 Honda Civic DX, this car is mint. Maintenance records, and the recent print out from the computer came with it convenced me. Inside and out it's an extremely clean machine. Naturally, I had to run thru the gears a few times [brought back memories] now, after a few miles on the road, learning all about the left foot, he'll do just fine. I just wanted to share. BTW, that '63 was replaced by a '68 GTO rag top, 4-on-the-floor, posi-rear, 400HP....The Street Shark

Nothing wrong with buying the first car as long as your son is responsible and is willing to work (and it sure seems that he is)

You have every reason to be very proud of him!

My folks bought me my first car and after I used it for a few years to go to school I bought a brand new 73 Chevy PU the first year I worked full time and gave the old car to my brother who was 3 years younger. 1967 Rambler American 3 on the tree.
Too many kids get things handed to them and they expect it. If they don't work for it they don't appreciate it and it has no real value to them.
