We moved in with our daughter and her husband. They had house additions, gave us rooms with oil steam boiler for heat, they had gas hot air and AC put in attic for them. Oil co. put in new boiler about 7 yrs. ago, but SIL had to take off all asbestos insulation before they would install it. I've been buying the fiberglass insulation and putting it on the pipes. 2 radiators have only 1 pipe to them, the other 2 have 2 pipes going to them (a feed and a return) BUT I JUST NOTICED ONE OF THE RETURNS IS A RUBBER HOSE !! LOL, not funny is it. Is there steam pressure in the return lines also ? May be a stupid question, but I believe it should be changed back to pipe.

??
Well I don't know generally rubber hose and steam don't go together at all . Could post a picture of it . i need a laugh.0 -
Pipes making you uncomfortable?
By rubber I hope you don't mean garden hose.
There are indeed rubber and silicone hoses that can take the pressure and heat. They're used like extension cords in industrial applications.
There is a problem. You can't really maintain the perfect pitch forever, and I would be very careful with concealed applications. Rubber does not even remotely last as long as iron pipes.
Tell me which side of the house is most comfortable? the one with the steam radiators or the one with the forced air?

we can go into our area and shut the rest of house off and have our temp. around 72. they keep theirs around 67. will try to take a picture of that hose, don't know if I'm smart enough to put it on here. but knowing that there are hoses that can be used on steam unit helps because the hose looked different.0 -
hose
Just last week I mentioned to my new landlord that we were going to rearrange the steam radiators in the shop (they had already been re-re-rearranged/removed/replaced to oblivion). He is aware of our competance in this area.
I told him the piping would be fine, well at least as long as the garden hoses held up.
Until now, I didn't seriously consider it an option ;-)0
