Which is the preferred method to supply DHW to a 6-family apartment building:
New boiler to be installed: Oil fired, Steam
Previous DHW: tankless coil w/mixing valve
1)Spec the new boiler with a tankless coil, and use an insulated storage tank.
2)Pipe a zone from below the water line to an indirect water heater.
*I am leaning toward the indirect to eliminate any issues of unwanted steam while supplying DHW.0 -
Depends on load size
I like the indirect, if it's that big a load.

Could dirty condensate from the old returns foul the HX of the indirect? I will flush out the returns, so the water condition should be reasonable. Would an inline strainer help, or would it add significantly to the pressure drop.0
