Cv converted into sq/ft edr

If you have 10 psig steam available at a valve and the valve has a CV of 14 what is the equivalent amount of steam expressed in sq/ft edr that the valve will provide to a appliance?

That valve will pass 14 GPM water with a 1 psi pressure drop.

Seems like it should have a steam rating, as well.

    It'll...

...depend on the pressure drop across the valve. I've got a sheet on pressure reducing valves for steam from one of the manufacturers, and a Cv of 14 is a 1-1/4" valve body. The lowest range on this particular chart is for 15 PSIG inlet, and there are 3 different flows shown for given outlet pressures:

    10 PSIG = 380 #/hr

    5 PSIG = 545 #/hr

    3 PSIG = 620 #/hr

The bigger the pressure drop you can take across a valve, fitting , length of pipe etc. for steam (or any other fluid) the greater the flow - and velocity. Noise is also a consideration for a lot of applications, and it'll drift right on up as the velocity increases.
