Fasten yer hi-eff seat belts, it's gonna be a wild year!
And now comes another HO with a specific product desire. This install calls for a Trinity combo (domestic/hydronic) in a barn where the hydronic distribution lines will run through an unconditioned space. Anyone have experience with the Trinity & glycol. And, why are they recommending circs that are substantially oversized for the head loss/flow rates required??? (T150 model: 6-gpm {min} @ 7' hd --- B&G NRF-33; Grundfos UP 26-64; or Taco 0010) Looks like parasitic energy loss to me by utilizing pumps that exceed the required flow rates - or am I missing something?

I also questioned the pump size.I can only assume they are trying to compensate for possible restrictions in the primary.I allwaysed sized it accordingly and put a UP15-58 in for the primary and indirect with no ill effects.As for glycol,it has a stainless hx so I would go with what works but take into consideration how it will effect your flows.
I have never been a fan of the combo unit due to the fact that it will cycle on small demands.A small indirect with the boiler would be my reccommendation.

Also....
...if you look at the Trinity suggested piping diagram, the boiler is in series with the primary loop. I assume they spec those pumps not only to overcome the head loss of the boiler, but also to provide the necessary flow for whatever is being sent to the secondary loops?

Just uncrated my first Trinity "150 heat only"today,went with the 0010, thats alot of flow for a 1" primary.0 -
Have installed about 10 of them. Only one has antifreeze. No problems related to the antifreeze. I do not pipe them as shown in their manual. I use real p/s pumping.

Head Loss
I agree. The circs seem oversized for the 45F dT maximum. A 15-58 would handle the T150 easily for 45F dT. They are probably designing around a tighter dT, but why don't they show the smaller dT flow rates in the table?
