White Rodgers Series 70

We have a Honeywell Chronotherm controlling a 40-year-old
steam boiler. Keyspan tech said, "White Rodgers thermostat is the way to go." Said it works well with steam boilers.

Do the pros agree with this recommendation? Series 70 suitable for a heating-only system?

It's also a bit of a challenge to find a supplier. We live in the Brooklyn, New York area.

Many thanks in advance for your time and input.

Robert

    Everything you need to know

is what you said. Keyspan probably pushes them since they have 'a deal'. Good deal for them, but...............

    Cycle rate

Honeywell stats tend to give better control of cycle rate, important with a steam system. The 1F78 has you clip a jumper for a longer cycle, the Honeywell Focus Pro lets you vary the cycle rate so you can get it just right. Nicer display too!

    Stat cycle rate

The older Chronotherm, Model 3, had screws in the back that you adjusted for steam, just follow the directions that are cast into the thermostat body. The Chronotherm 4 was adjusted to 1 cycle per hour via the keypad. The new VisionPro is also adjusted to 1 cycle per hour via the TouchScreen. All are steam compatible. The T8112 is NOT steam compatible, it can only be sdjusted to 3 cycles per hour.

    White Rodgers Series 70 Thermostat

Thanks again for all the feedback.

    Bill W., at Honeywell:
We do not have a digital thermostat right now. You know that if the Chronotherm model only comes in analog. Excuse me if my terminology if off. Will the digital thermostat turn the boiler on and off more frequently and shorten the boiler's life?
