    fitch fuel catalyst

I have a plumbing and heating contractor that wants to hook up a fitch fuel catalyst to my furnace. They tell me it is supposed to save fuel, burn cleaner and therefore save me money. I have never heard of it and am looking for information and an objective opinion regarding this. We have a new Buderus furnace along with an outside temperature controller. Just how much more efficient can we get? Your input would be appreciated. Thank you for your time. Scott Malo

    Sounds like Snake Oil.

If it made the boilers or burners more efficient, the manufactuers would include the technology in the equipment.

"Fitch Catalyst". Sounds like something from a late night TV commercial.

There is a web site WWW.FitchFuelCatalyst.com that explains how it works and testing that was performed. But of course it is their web site and they are only going to put positive information to push their product.

I'm doubtful to say the least

... these kinds of products can promise all sorts of things, but trust them I wouldn't.

even if it does what they claim

I still don't see the use particularly in an open combustion burner. In an internal combustion engine, there are many compromises to balance to get smooth explosive combustion. In a steady state atomized fuel/atmospheric pressure air combustion chamber, many of the problems that they talk about are just not there.

I did not see a nice pair of gas chromatograph outputs of a fuel sample before and after a 3 second contact with their special alloy. That's what would make me sit up and take notice. Not 100 samples averaged, just one. It could be done very easily in less than 5 minutes and could be posted with nice annotations as to the peaks of the various components.

Then again, I'm so unreasonable. I have no reason to believe it does or does not work, but certainly the burden is on them to demonstrate some proof.
