Corrosion inhibitors

Here is my 2 cents. to counter corrosion you could get an expert involved, like a water laboratory. Chemistry is involved here, & electricity. There is only so much each of us can know.
Summer shut down. Open and drain the steam boiler? That admits air, which is 26% oxygen. If this is done, well it is obvious that something is going to oxydize. However if the boiler is Gas fired, leaving the pilots on will heat the boiler and dry it out. (be sure to turn off the burner supply as to avoid a dry fire situation) Hot water boilers I think should be just left "on-line". To drain one is allowing the oxygen to get in just to have to remove it again along with the admittence of fresh water to fill it and the containiments that are there. I guess useing your inherit job knowledge is what I am advocating. Every job is different. Blanket idaes sometimes do not fit, parameters are not the same everywhere!

For aluminum heat exchanger...Also I've searched, and don't think there's ever been an answer to another person's post about pros and cons of shutting off a boiler during the summer. thanks.

    Products like

Rhomar are blended for aluminum protection. Several manufactures, Nobel No Burst AL, for one make aluminum friendly PG glycols.

Temperature should not upset the protection level of either of these.

As far as the external of the HX, most aluminum boilers do not have pilot flames or other means of keeping the block warm and dry. I don't know the long term effects of a block like this in a humid basement for example.
