adding hot water radiators

I am adding some 2nd floor radiators to an existing hot water radiator system. The current system has multiple copper-fin baseboards connected in series. There are two main loops for the second floor. Are there advantages/disadvantages to 1.) Cutting in the new radiators into one of the loops. 2.) Bringing new feed/return pipes up from the basement for the new radiators. In addition can you mix cast-iron baseboard with the copper-fin type in the same system?

there should be no problems with mixing CI rads and copper fin rads. The only disadvantage in cutting the new zone in would be 1/ performance of the zone you are adding to. It will take longer for the last unit to heat and 2/ you lose the chance to make that a seperate zone, unless there is no room to expand at the boiler.Just a guy running some pipes.0
