paint a Runtal panel rad?

Don't Runtals have a baked enamel finish? If so, it's my experience that such is extremely difficult to re-paint. Requires extremely careful prep, proper paint, careful application and still a bit of prayer...

I read the article in these pages about painting cast-iron radiators, but I was wondering if all of it applies to panel rads. We have a Runtal wall panel that glows in the dark because of the glossy paint on it, and we wanted to tone it down by using the same paint as on the walls (latex flat). Is this crazy?0 -
Give them
I would give them a call. I have talked with them on a few issue's and although busy are happy to answer any and all question's you may have...0 -
how easy .....
would it be to take it off the wall? Sand blasting and automotive body paint will give you the best results...latex won't give you a great finish...kpc

Yep, it's baked-on enamel. I wanted a non-shiny finish matching the walls. That's not going to happen, apparently. Thanks for the advice!0 -
Rich, paint is paint, wipe the thing twice with paint thinner (wet than dry, repeat) scuff sand with 320 grit, than use a purple scotch bright pad (gets into the corners better) wipe dust off with a rag than a tack cloth. Call your painter and have him use a paint conditioner (makes it lay out better) and get-er-done. The places that will peal are where you didn't scratch it up or didn't get the sylicone wax they use before shipping off. paint needs scratches to adhear to. It should look like satin stainless steel when the scuff sanding is done. Not magic just a lot of work. best of luck with your project T.0
