Just moving some monster radiators into the house this weekend .I've built a ramp and Iam using a comealong to pull them up the ramp. This gets them into the house but not to the second floor. Were probably going to chain fall them up the stairs by putting a beam across some of the load bearing walls in the attic and putting a sling through the ceiling. It just makes me wonder how did the old timers use to do it?.They were probably smart and assemble them in the house.0 -
How heavy
are the rads ? We use handtrucks with stair running wheels to pull our boilers out of and into basements . Our limit for 2 men with this handtruck is maybe 600 to 700 pounds .0 -
I concur with ron, jr. we use a rubber tired dolly and two or three strong guys. we can get just about anything up or down the stairs.0 -
We use an Escalera (www.escalera.com)to walk them up and down stairs. The attached photos show me walking a radiator into my truck by myself. It works the same at job sites. It can walk over a 1" threshold or an 11" stair with ease. If they are too big or long we use a shop crane to get them in and out of the truck. Ramps work good if you make some skate boards for them.
The old timers put them together on site. When they were new it worked fine. I have attached one that is 33 sections long.
