monday morning,6a.m. need advice

Dose the boiler run constantly? and never build up presure?
are the pipes in the cellar insulated?
are all the valves open?
are the mains vented as well?

    need help!

    3 story 110 yr.old house 1 pipe steam,weil-mclain,250,000btu boiler installed 2001,new vents on all rads last year not getting heat across 3rd floor on and off on parts of 2nd,nothing much exposed,get low air on last rad on 3rd with vent off,slow pressure no heat? what am I doing wrong?

    yes to all of the above,I'm not experienced with this system as the fitters say we are jus plumbers.there are 2 6 in. vents above boiler in basement haven't checked those yetwish I could find good steam head here in St.louis would let him take over,then ask him for job this is more fun than what I do all day
  • Flood the boiler

    to make sure it's not leaking above the waterline. Fill the boiler so the water starts to rise into the steam main. If you get water coming out of the boiler, you found the problem. Yes, I did see how new that boiler is, but it still needs to be checked.

    Then check the main vents to see if they are leaking, and any other place where a leak might occur.

    thats my next step,have a feeling theres water in those mains,not money job just trying to help old customer this is fun trying to figure it out wish I had more answers or right questions
