Silicone sealer and combustion test equipment

Unless I'm changing the chamber which comes with the putty I just remove the burner to clean the chamber out. Just need a flange gasket and it has enough room to change the blanket on the floor if needed.

I have a 10 year old weil McClain boiler that has a front "door" that is not on hinges like the new ones but has 4 bolts that hold it on. I opened it up to do a thorough cleaning and inspection and found out that the seal was just "boiler putty". I went to my local plumbing supply stores and nobody has this putty in stock. Also everyone suggested that I just use a high temperature silicone sealant on it.
The only thing that worries me about this is that I am afraid to use a silicone based substance because I am afraid it will damage the oxygen sensor on my fyrite pro 60 combustion analyzer.
I work on cars as a hobby and I know that there are warnings all the time about not using silicone sealents on any of the exhaust components because it will cause the Oxygen sensors in the exhaust system to fail.
Wouldn't the same issue apply here?
One plumbing supply place said I should use Kaowool to make the seal.
Should I just order "boiler putty" or is my fear of using the silicone sealant unfounded?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.0 -
Weil burner door seal
Use some 3/8 Kaowool rope, held in place with a small bead of high temp silicone. Coat the rope with never seize before installing and you'll never have to change it again. Let the stuff burn off for a while and you shouldn't have any problems. Do this a lot on that boiler.
If you are worried about silicone, use water glass cement to hold the rope in the groove.

Rope
I use rope as does AL and have not had any problems, I silicone to the grove with a small bead and it works much better that the putty, I never use that putty anymore. Thanks on that Antiseeze tip AL.0 -
I like using rope. I clean off the part where the rope will be applied. Then spray it with contact adhesive that comes in a spray can. It grips tight and holds really well.

Thanks alot for all the advise. The plumbing store gave me some Kawool that is like a strip but not a rope. I guess that would be the wrong stuff. I assume the rope is round and tight like rope is. I will go back there today and try to get that stuff.
Is anti-seize something you get at the plumbing supply store as well?
Thanks

Anti Seize
Pick it up at an automotive store, get the bronze
stuff it takes higher temp and a can will last a long time use it sparingly. once you have used it you will know what I mean. It is vertually the same stuff used in control wells for heat conduction, you know that little packett almost everyone throws out.0 -
Just got the anti-seize stuff at the auto parts place as you suggested. I also got some high temp silicone sealant to use as the "glue" to hold the Kaowool rope (3/8") to the the cast iron door. (Got that today too)
Both said they were "sensor safe" (some of the silicone sealants didn't say that) so that takes care of my worry about messing up the O2 sensor on the fyrite.
Now it is time to put this stuff on... Can't wait...
My wife thinks that there is something wrong with someone who gets so into fixing up their boiler..... She is probably right...It actually is weird when you think about it!0 -
As I ytell my wife
Its's not me it's the rest of the world that's wrong;-)0
