Ah, Life in the country

I stayed in for most of the morning doing my favorite thing, paperwork :)

All of a sudden "there arose such a clatter". The cats were chasing something and it was fighting back !!! My first thought was a rodent that found the wife's grain bin and made it's way into the house, somehow. Thankfully, it wasn't a barn rat, although I was prepared :)

Still, couldn't let this boy run around the house, stinking the place up among other things :(

Gonna get him mounted for posterity :)

    country > urban?

Our sweet land the USA, is not all that "country" any more. Mountain Lions, coyotes, your ermine, wolverines, wolves, I'll tell you we just are not all that observant. These wildlife are sneaky, They abound around here quite often There was a Lynx that was released with a radio coller to trak his whereabouts, he traveled from colorado to Utah, across freeways rivers farms, and only the radio coller saw him. We are constantly catching and releasing cougars. Coyotes are a problem in Los Angeles. Hey folks , keep your eyes open and see "wild things" in your own backyard! One may even be black & white!

    That's life

May be "sad", but reality is it had to happen. Couldn't have him taking up residence in the house. Wild animals belong outside.

I don't want to debate anyone over "animal rights" vs people rights because it becomes an emotional argument instead of a logical and practical one.

Let's just not go there and see this as an interesting happening of very rural America.

About ten years ago I had a coyote

in my backyard within the city limits of Boston. It killed Roosevelt, my prize Dutch rabbit....

    =:(

Thinking it was a wild and mangy dog (hey, in fact it was!) and was persistent with no fear, Mr. Glock and I took care of business. I still have the skull as a reminder.

    Coyotes are everywhere now.

    Sorry Jason

I read more into your words than that, I guess.

.22 birdshot is the size of sand and about 1000 FPS :)

    Good thing

Good thing not to have in the house. The little buggers are fearless and wouldn't think anything about taking a hunk out of one of your kids. The thing is, it probably caught more mice than your cats do.

Here in Northern Lower Michigan, we are being over run by coyotes. I can hear them yapping most nights right from my yard. One of the locals that traps discovered a den last summer while scouting the woods a couple miles from my house. Seeing some bone laying near the hole, he started poking around and before he was done, had uncovered 19 deer skulls. One of them was a buck with an antler still atached but most were fawns. Several of the guys that run coyotes with dogs have reported that they have seen wolf sign also. I spoke with one of the guys who said their dogs hit a track and whatever it was had footprints the size of a saucer and left the dogs in the dust, sucking for air. The hounds couldn't keep up. Bears are numerous and Kathy and I saw a cougar crossing a local state highway within 6 miles of our house last year.

I'm with Brad........I don't go for walks in the woods anymore without the Glock. Bears and coyotes are prone to run but a cussed mountain lion will hunt you like anything else. Cats love to kill stuff just for the sake of it.

    Mice

I'm sure that was a draw for him. The day before, we had at least 40 birds on the porch at the feeder. Yesterday, the wife says, "Gee, we have no birds today".

As far as Coyotes go, we've had them crap in our lawn, as long as the Great Pyrenees' are inside the fence :)
