Aquastats for indirects ? What do you use ?

the L'Aqaurius set point controller for our indirect jobs. I found this to be very acurate and we did'nt get a wide differential. Sometimes with the Honeywell's we'll get a delay as the system whats for the differential.

I have been told that the L'Aquarius is not longer available.

Do any of you use a better control ?

Independent Energy made the L'Aquarius control for retrofit on the SuperStor tanks. They used to based out of East Greenwich, RI. I drove by their old facilities in East Greenwich last week while visiting a contractor and noticed that they were gone. Not sure whether they have sold out or moved.

We provide an L4006A Tradeline control with a fixed 5°F differential with our indirects. When asked this question, I always advise using an L4006A with an adjustable differential and setting the differential for 5°F if it isn't our tank. There is nothing worse than waiting for the tank to cool down 15°F to 20°F while standing in the shower! There are other brands of setpoint controls out there that will work such as a Tekmar 150 but the L'Aquarius was a sweet setup with the control being clamped onto the well. If you are using a more sophisticated control logic involving a Tekmar control system then you can use a sensor for the indirect and let the control determine its functionality. Hope this helps.

I really like the Tekmar 150 because of it's adjustability to wide differentials. If you use a wide differential and a anti-scald/tempering valve then you can get longer but less frequent cycles of the burner for reduced wear, reduced fuel usage and lower pollution.

I personally set my Tekmar aquastat for 150 degrees and a differential of 40 degrees. That allows the indirect to go between 130 and 170 degrees. The tempering valve is set for 120 degrees. I never have to wait for the tank to cool down to turn on the burner for recovering during a shower. The higher average temperature in the tank kills any bacteria in the water. The higher average temperature gives the tank more usable capacity and the wide differential reduced the number of boiler cycles to 5 or 6 per WEEK. The fuel savings over the previous 130 degree setpoint with 5 degree differential was about 20% in the non-heating season.

    How about

The new Carlin Smart Temp controls? I believe Bock is using them on their water heaters.
