this is all about taking the Lost Art to the next level, and doing the right thing with the proceeds. It doesn't get any better.

    Check this out

Balancing Steam Systems Using a Vent Capacity Chart

Gerry Gill and Steve Pajek did a remarkable job with this. They did all the testing of the vents and traps and out together an incredibly useful e-booklet.

And they've asked us to donated all the money made to the New York Cares Literacy Program. That's what we'll be doing.

    Such good men.

Put this one in your library. Everyone wins.

    thanks Pat,

yup, the info's come in real handy for us already..i had one job that had two small air vents on the return pipe and the system heated very slow..using this info from our tests i replaced the little air vents with a single Monash Younker #48 thermostatically operated valve, (3/4'' radiator trap), because i knew how much air it could pass..system heats fast now..also serves to protect the system and upper floors should the boiler flood, as it would then act as a spillway.

    no, thank you

    Hi Gerry,

Just downloaded this AM. Now I have a better understanding of how much difference there is between vent manufacturers and models when it comes to capacity. It was interesting to note how the "new" Hoffman 17c now has one of the lowest ratings.

Great job with the research, and an even better idea of what to do with the proceeds. Well done.

    Best regards, Pat
