however I'd add that in my locale in the great white North that a furnasty in an attic is just a bad , bad , bad idea. Where's your heating sytem at that point ? basically it is outside in the frigid cold this can really hurt the systems efficency

    moving the furnace

I have a big furnace closet in the house that really could be used for something else. Where might I put the furnace?Could i put it in a closet outside or in the garage? someone suggested the attic, but I don't see myself at 60 climbing up to clean the filter. thanks!!!!!

Keep in mind that wherever you move the furnasty, you will need to connect it to the existing ductwork, without major re-work. That may, or may not, be feasible.

Lynne, without any of us seeing your installation, we can only guess as to what would be the best solution for you. It would be best to call in a professional that does a lot of furnace and duct work to evaluate the situation. We just can't make an intellegent guess for you on this one. Too many variables to considered without "eyes on".
    Good luck
