Pre Install Boiler List

get your self a digi cam and take pic of all the boilers you service. then write a list of piping for the feed and return take measurements and you can start your own list. for the time you have been doing this you should not be by your self to start. i as a service manager go out on every install to make sure the crew knows what needs to be done and get there input as well. if they need my help i will help them. the last day of the job i will buy them lunch. your training is from the school of hard knox.

Does Anyone have a pre-Install Boiler Checklist?

I am a fairly new technician (About 6 Months) I Have installed 5 or 6 boilers, They all work well, but I always seem to forget something. For instance, the first time I forgot the ourge set up (Had to drain it down and add it) 2 hours later, A-OK!, the 2nd boiler I mixed up the Zones (2 Hours later and a few changes, A-OK) I realize most companies would not let a "Newbie" install a boiler by himself, and I'm not complaining - I really need the work, but, I could really use a list that would be a sort of guide or checklist for before and after the install.. If you have one or know where I can down load one, I would be greatful! Incidently, our service manager always comes by and checks everything before I start it up, but unless it's a dangerous situation, he'll let me start it up and tell him whats wrong. (I understand his teaching method, but would like to be able, just once not to screw something up) Again, I would really love some advice, I don't want to go back to selling air purifiers again!

    Read

Read the install manual of anything you install, cover to cover, BEFORE starting! It will be your pre install check list. You'll be glad you did.

I also keep a file with instructions and cut sheets for everything I have installed in the past! They are a wealth of info that come in handy when future questions arise.

    Good luck,

    Jim

    Training

That's really unfortunate that you don't have better training and resources available from your employer.

They can't really complain if they don't provide you with adequate training. It's not easy enough to just sit down and figure it all out on your own. Systems vary so much that there's no one-size-fits-all checklist.

It's unfortunate, because you genuinely want to do a good job. They should be grateful to have someone like that working for them. With the right attitude, aptitude, and training you can be a very valuable asset to the company.
