    Boiler Firing

I have a WM EG-40 natural gas steam boiler. I have a properly setup and insulated Trane two pipe vapor system. I'd like to verify that the boiler is being properly fired. I'm a little suspicious of the amount of natural gas I've used during the last two Winters. What is the procedure for validating and checking firing rate and manifold pressure? Thanks.

Use a properly calibrated combustion analyzer determine your CO / CO2. Check. Your. Envelope. (building) There is a reason thet call it heat loss.

    usage vs price

Most gauge their usage by what they pay rather then their usage. The price of fuel has been rising. Time for tighting up the heat loss of the building with insulation and investing in more efficant equitment....

    It's not comming back down....

    Boiler firing

Granted the house plays a huge roll. However, I've replaced all 29 of my 1926-vintage Fenestra casement windows with 2004-vintage Marvin Casemasters. (I'll stipulate in advance that the cost of the Marvin's will never be paid back from energy cost savings in my lifetime) However, in terms of comfort, my home is much improved. I've also added 12 inches of blown in cellulose insulation to the attic. The reason I would like to check the boiler firing rate, is simply to make sure it's set up properly, for maximum efficiency. Is this a DIY activity or should I call someone with more expertise? If so, who do you recommend? Thanks.

It should be checked at time of................

annual service. We(haha) know gas is the "clean, modern, safe and all the other stuff that the gas companys say and most believe, but it still needs to be serviced yearly! This isn't a diy job. Check find a contractor at top of page. Hope this helps
