Started a big one

Of course I didn't go back to finish this one , me and Sal were pulled off to do a 2 zone V83 somewhere else . My partners Phil and Paul went back to get it up and running .

I wanted to use a vertical Spirovent and split the circs - 3 to the right of the boiler and 3 to the back , but noone carries that particular air eliminator here and there aint a built-in on these boilers . I gotta get the shop to stock the vertical for jobs like this . Thanks alot Ted .

  • today . Big for us .

This was one of the worst piped and wired boilers I've ever seen , and I come across some horror shows . This is 7 zones total including the indirect . 1 thermostat controls 2 pumps on 1 floor , 3 zones were powered directly from their thermostats , romex wires connected to pumps on the outside , black fittings on the domestic side of the indirect , the list goes on and on .... It took 4 of us over 2 hours to track down the wiring , piping and dismantle this piece of junk .
  • We knew

right from the start that we couldn't get this one done in one day . The customer wanted an aquabooster instead of the indirect , so we installed their own scratch and dent 80 gallon electric heater . We managed to get the hot water going and connect 2 of the 6 zones of heat . It took me around 2 hours to figure out and pipe all the pumps on the supply . Trying to cram all this stuff in a tight area ( per the customer's request ) and make it look good is a nightmare . I asked the customer how it looked so far , she said " I guess it's OK ...... " . PRICELESS .

Nice trick splitting up the supply and spacing the circs.

Have fun hooking up the rest.

    She has no idea

She has no idea what a gift has just been given to her or the caliber of the person doing the work in her basement.

Some of the stuff you run into just makes you shake your head in disbelief doesn't it?

    Yes it does

I am still shaking my head over this system...........and it is located in my basement. I have been without heat for over 3 weeks. Would you believe my wonderful WM HE series at a spry age of 23 years had to start leaking and break during the coldest spring Minnesota has had in nearly 30 years.
  • Sal told me

she was out near the trucks , scrummaging the mungo pile for decent looking valves and drains . She took about 1/2 of the scrap copper ! I'm guessing she has more rental homes than this one and has a cheap handyman on the side . The guy probably did the majority of work on the old system . Thank you for the kind words Steve .
  • Did you

find a contractor to replace that ol' Weil ? Even here on Long Island , most of the nights have been chilly enough to run the heat . I hope it stays this way all spring and summer long .

Nice job Ron! I can't believe the customers reaction. They do not know the quality of work they are getting. Would not have believe it if not for seeing the before pictures.

    Not yet

I am going to attend the local Wetstock event for information and contacts in my area. Wish we had the local expertise you guys have out east. Most everything here is forced air except for us old home owners.

remodels are sometimes managing to bring the habby homeowner a Terrible case of forgetfulness :) a picture often tends to jog their memory cell :)next time take a picture from the floor looking up at the ceiling....! Now Wouldnt that throw a dash of light on the mind :)
